Poem
To Be A Wanderer
What keeps you nonstop wandering
Is you think you’ve got to be a thing
Sit down and think a little while
Do you recognize your smile?
To love yourself, you’ve got to train
That’s you right there, shining plain
Think in morning light how good
It is to wander through the wood
How nice it is to feel the stares
Of girls with long-grown colored hairs
How breathing brings a kind of joy
The kind in every happy boy
To freely, untaxed, drink the air
And blow away your dark despair
You’ll find the world loves you, too
It loves the little things you do
They don’t go noticed there and then
But sometime in a different when
They’ll blossom, bloom, and bring you joy
The universe’s karmic ploy
You see, these plots and sacred lands
Were shaped by God’s almighty hands
So if you find that you’re diseased
Or if you find yourself unpleased
Remember all things come in time
Today they’re grapes, tomorrow wine
But as things come so must they go
This is the universe’s flow
All around you, it abounds
From baby cribs to burial grounds
So don’t be sad if loved ones die
Their souls and spirits fill the sky
And through your life, as time ticks by
As moments come and as they fly
Thank yourself that you’re alive
For you are it, the Godhead. And now it is your time to thrive.
It Rains, It Shines
It rains, it shines
It’s clear sometimes
Then clouds come back
To fill the crack
The sun burst through
And every day it starts anew
Hands to Work, Hearts to God
Build, you dreamers, build away
Stay a-craftin’, night and day
And slog your way through pain and grind
So you might one day heaven find
But yea’, you may soon find it true
That heaven really dwells in you
And thus, by building day and night
You can bring out that sacred light
True Dreamers Follow Through
Don’t let those people hold you back
Who say they once were dreamers too
But say they found, as they grew
That dreams cannot be followed-through
Impermanence Is Permanence
The butterflies fly
Make their way through the sky
Then they melt into puddles
Dissolve like the snow
For they know, as do I
That they cannot die
They are one and the same
With all that’s around
Intertwined
It’s a rainy night, and you come home to see
A phone lying still on the windowsill
A dial tone still trilling while the face
Of your lover lies dappled in the beams of neon streetlights
Squeezing their ways through cracks in the blinds
To caress the lips and contours of that lovely face.
You whisper hello, and quiet, make your way across the room
Tiptoeing and undressing an inch at a time, staying slow
So you can listen to her breath and keep the one you love asleep.
And then you’re freed of all the horrors of the day —
They slip away into the night, it’s only right
This is the time you can be free.
So you caress and cuddle up against her chest
Staying warm within that nest, and sharing heat
You’re both undressed and you repeat
The deeper rhythms of her breath
So that you too can get some rest.
Dreams begin to trickle through your thoughts
And as they flood your tired mind
You realize you are intertwined
With your soulmate
And there is no better fate.
You dream a dream that’s just for you
But from the smile on your face
I’m sure you’re dreaming that the two
Of you are going on a date.
